ABOUT US
The Specialty Gas Foundation is a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit that is committed to honoring our Veterans and raising funds for cancer research by uniting communities through the power of BBQ.
For decades, Specialty Gas House owner Rob Schenz has seen how a Barbecue can bring people together. When cancer touched his family, first inspiring his sister to launch a charity in her daughter’s memory, and, after his sister’s passing, compelling Rob to carry that legacy of giving forward. In 2015, he formalized the Specialty Gas Foundation. A 501(c)(3) Non-Profit, which turns community grilling events into meaningful support for those facing life's toughest challenges.
We raise money the best way we know how, through grilling and BBQ. From Summer Grilling Classes and Friday Fundraiser Lunches to The Buckeye BBQ Battle and our signature event, The Ohio Eggfest, every event we host is a 100% proceeds fundraiser. 100% of donations support cancer research, prevention, and treatment through the Buckeye Cruise for Cancer and The James Cancer Hospital, and honor our veterans through Honor Flight Columbus. Join us at our next event or raffle as we turn great food and good company into help where it’s needed most.

Buckeye Cruise for Cancer
The Buckeye Cruise for Cancer raises money each year to fund critical cancer research at The James Cancer Hospital. We’re proud to support their mission through The Ohio Eggfest.

One of the nation’s leading cancer hospitals, The James combines world-class research, prevention, and patient care. Every dollar we donate helps move us closer to a cancer-free world, starting right here in Columbus, Ohio.
Honor Flight Columbus
Honor Flight Columbus gives Veterans a once-in-a-lifetime journey to Washington D.C. to visit the memorials built in their honor. Our fundraising helps make sure every Veteran gets the thanks and recognition they deserve.
FUNDRAISER EVENTS WE HOST
From large festivals to small cookouts, every event is designed to make giving easy and tasty. Every dollar raised through our events and raffles is 100% donated. All event costs are fully covered by Specialty Gas House and Rob Schenz, so your donation goes straight to the cause, not toward overhead.
The Ohio Eggfest
Our signature annual Big Green Egg BBQ festival, competition and fundraiser at Fortress Obetz that we have been doing for 11 years. Unlimited food samples, Live demos & music, cook teams raffles and so much more! 100% of proceeds benefit cancer research through The Buckeye Cruise for Cancer & James Cancer Hospital.
Grilling Classes & Demos
Join us for grilling classes at Specialty Gas House where you’ll learn tips, tricks, and recipes from local chefs and pitmasters. Whether it’s mastering the Big Green Egg, cooking on a griddle, or firing up a pizza oven, our classes are designed for all skill levels. 100% of proceeds from benefit Honor Flight Columbus.
Fundraiser Friday Cookouts
Join us for lunch on Fridays in the Summer and support a great cause! Every Friday through the Summer starting after Memorial Day and ending Labor Day Weekend we fire up the grill to support local Veterans through Honor Flight Columbus! 11am-2pm at Specialty Gas House.
